“WMC Kerkrade” 2022

On July 17th, the World Music Contest WMC Kerkrade took place in the city of Kerkrade in the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The Lithuanian State Wind Instrument Orchestra Trimitas won the gold medal in the main category, the award for most promising collective, in addition to getting recognition for outstanding musical achievements. The contest is considered to be one of the most important cultural phenomena of wind instrument culture not only in Europe, but also globally. Orchestras from countries with very deep wind instrument traditions, including Switzerland, Germany and Holland, among others, took part in the contest. According to the principal conductor and artistic director of Trimitas, Leif Karlsson, this achievement testifies to the results of purposeful and consistent work: “Preparation of the virtuoso programme and mandatory pieces took six months and demanded special artistry and the desire of the musicians to perform at their best. The title of the most prospective music collective proves that the modern concept of the symphony wind orchestra chosen two years ago has already allowed us to be seen in an international context among the best collectives from other countries. This is very important in the development of the relatively new wind instrument culture in Lithuania.” During the tour in the Netherlands, the orchestra also held an impressive concert in the city of Obbichto at the cultural festival Grensmaas Vallei, where it received warm ovations from spectators and a proposal to collaborate in the future.
