Drum&Brass

DURATION: 1 hour 20 min

Giunter Percussion is a percussion ensemble operating for more than 20 years that was the first percussion ensemble in Lithuania to perform classical, contemporary, folk, popular and jazz music. Now, they have developed a programme in collaboration with Trimitas. The joint programme of the orchestra and the ensemble is a gift for listeners who are looking forward to new interplays. The programme combines the rich timbral palette of percussion instruments with wind instruments, displaying the most unexpected colours and inviting the audience on an exotic acoustic journey.

David R. Gillingham’s highly cinematic Concertino for Four Percussion and Wind Ensemble undoubtedly stirs the imagination, while Marc Ford’s Stubernic Fantasy, a musical journey to Latin America, invites you to dream of faraway lands. Infused with the infectious passion of the region, the work takes Ford on a journey through exotic Guatemala and Nicaragua, where the stories of the marimba ensembles that play there inspired the composer’s vivid imagination. The exotic flavour continues with the African folk piece Wenda Kanawa, while Nathan Daughtrey’s Black Rainbow, is a musical reflection of the mysterious lunar rainbow, adding a touch of mysticism. Black Rainbow is highly expressive in revealing the special interplay between brass and percussion, as well as their inherent energy. March & Drum (2019), written by Lithuanian composer Linas Rimša especially for Giunter Percussion, is equally intriguing. It is a march crowning the energetic union of the brass orchestra and percussion.
